Hello! My name is Megan Davidson and this is my third year teaching here at Samuelson. I graduated from the University of Iowa in 2007, and worked in the insurance field prior to following my passion of teaching. In 2015 I earned my Masters of Science in Teaching degree from Drake University with endorsement in ELL and reading. Being a teacher has been an amazing career change for me, and I feel so fortunate to work with all of the wonderful students and staff at Samuelson.
I also recently got married in September and enjoy spending time with my husband. We both love to read, watch movies and cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes together! Having grown up in Urbandale, I am lucky to have my parents here in town and love spending time with my family. In my free time, I also enjoy hot yoga, cooking and doing crafts.
Hi! My name is Amy DeVries and I am so blessed to be a member of the Samuelson community! This will be my 8th year teaching for Des Moines Public Schools. I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. I am currently working on obtaining my Master’s Degree in Literacy Instruction through Graceland University and will complete the program in October! YAY! As an DMPS educator, it is our mission to make sure that our students possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be successful at the next stage of their lives. This is what I strive for day in and day out to make sure your child can be the best they can be. Second grade is an important year and I am here to help make it a special year to remember. I have high expectations for your child. I believe that every child can succeed, and that any success, no matter how small, should be cheered for. I believe that all students can learn, and I will always encourage you to be involved. Together, we can make second grade an exciting and enjoyable year for your child.
Outside of school, I live in Polk City with my husband, Tyler and our three-year-old daughter, Brylee. They are my everything! We enjoy family bike rides, movie nights, bonfires, playing outside in our backyard, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes!!

Hi! My name is Lyndsey Vandello. This is my fifth year teaching, but my first year teaching 2nd grade. Prior to teaching at Samuelson, I taught 6th grade for two years and 4th grade for two years in Ottumwa. I love working with kiddos of all ages and learning just as much from them as they do from me!
I attended the University of Iowa, which means I am a Hawkeye fan! I love to read and watch movies, as well as spend time with friends and family. Of my two brothers and two sisters, I am the oldest. My youngest siblings are 9 and 10, so I travel frequently to see them and we have lots of sleep overs! I recently adopted a four month old puppy who loves to go for walks and cuddle on the couch.
I am so excited for this year at Samuelson! I look forward to working with your students and learning and growing alongside them!
My name is Lisa Weatherall and I love teaching second grade! I attended Iowa State University to earn my bachelor’s degree in education and later attended Graceland University for my master’s degree in Education. I began my career in Des Moines Public Schools at Moore Elementary where I taught special education for 4 years before becoming a second grade teacher. I taught at Woodlawn for a year before we switched to the Samuelson Building. I enjoy working in the Beaverdale neighborhood and I love the diversity of our students. My husband Jim and I have three teenage children, who keep us very busy. We spend most of our free time involved in their athletic or school activities.
